Laboratory

Department of Laboratory

Our laboratory at Holy Family Hospital provides excellent diagnostic facilities for patient care which is essential for effective management of disease. This is being done by a team of well qualified pathologists and microbiologists. We have modern state of the art equipments and machines to assist our experienced and trained professionals. The Laboratory was started in 1953 at the inception of the hospital and the school of technology for MLT training was started in 1962.

The Laboratory is committed to providing accurate, reliable and times services in the field of Clinical Chemistry, including hormone assays, Haematology, Immunohaematology, Clinical Pathology, Microbiology, Serology, Histopathology and Cytopathology including the FNAC, both guided (USG and CT) and unguided, at competitive price to the satisfaction of the patients. Diagnosis of malignancies and various infectious diseases, most importantly Tuberculosis, Hepatitis, HIV and some of the dreaded viral diseases that come up from time to time is being carried out.

We are helping the zero thalassemia programme of the Delhi Government by doing haemoglobin HPLC on expectant mothers and children. In addition, we are providing a battery of antenatal investigations like Dual test, triple test and TORCH testing for detection of various abnormalities and infections in the foetus for timely intervention, if required. Various screening tests and other tests are being performed on micro-samples in neonates.

We have kept us with emerging trends in microbiology by starting automated TB cultures and Blood cultures over a decade ago and updating to automated bacterial identification system as well as antimicrobial susceptibility testing more recently.

The blood bank was started in 1968 and was the initial Blood Bank to be licensed in 1981. We prepare components like plasma, packed cells and platelets from most of the whole blood drawn from healthy donors. The apheresis procedure for platelet preparation is a life saver and is available round the clock especially during dengue season when it is in great demand.

The thalassemics are looked after from the day Blood Banking services started in the hospital. They are our VIPs and are given special package and concessions.
